For those Tom Petty fans who might not know, he passed away on october the second with family and bandmates gathered around his bedside.
He was rushed to the hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.
He hade just completed his 40th aniversury tour a week before. Here is a page where we can post our favorite memories of Tom, and tributes.

I began listening to his music when I was a child when my parentrs would paly one of his albums in the car. It wasn't until much later that I fell in love with his music, from his wonderful lyrics, to Mike Camble's incredible guitar solos. He seemed to have a song for whatever mood I was in.
I went to see him when he came to Tulsa Oklahoma during his hypnotic I tour, it was an incredible show, I had front row seats, and he was standing right in front of me, it was on my birthday, and i will never forget that night, I wish I had recorde3d some of it.
I felt like I lost someone very special when he died, like I lost a best friend.
I love you very much Tom, and I'll miss you. I hope you are jamming with George Harison, and Roy Orbison. I will see you in the grate beyond my friend.

I hightly recomend watching Runnin Down a Dream on Netflix.

Thanks for creating this topic. I was saddened and shocked to hear the news last week. For any fellow Sirius XM subscribers who may be fans of Tom, the Tom Petty Radio crew has risen up to the challenge, and much more, to produce poignant and amazing programming under difficult circumstances. Many of those folks knew Tom in person and Tom was doing shows regularly on the station. That's just a small part of Tom's legacy, of course, but it's a part worth noting and an amazing job being done by fans and friends of Tom on that station. I'm glad to be seen Tom live in 2012, and I own many of his albums and have listened to many more. He was and is a favourite for me and many friends, with the Heartbreakers, Wilburys, or on his own. RIP Tom.

I couldn't believe it. I thought he was a bit too young, but, then I've seen parents lose kids. Very sad.
Life is short. Live it to the fullest!
Blessings,
Sarah

Yeah. He's one of my favorite singers. It was also recently announced that his death may have been due to an accidental drug overdose. He was on prescription painkillers for a fractured hip that had advanced into a full-on break at some point during his last tour. But he's one of my favorite singers to do at Karaoke and one of my biggest inspirations.

R.I.P. Tom Petty. I, too, enjoyed all his music. My earliest memory of him is when I went to watch The Silence of the Lambs. The song American Girl comes out in the kidnap scene, where Buffalo Bill is wearing an arm brace, one of Ted Bundy's effective disarming ploys.

It's really quite an amazing movie.

Petty wasn't necessarily one of my favourite artists, but he was damned good, and it's a shame he's dead. I'm at an age where a lot of the musicians I grew up listening to are starting to die though, especially as I preferred a lot of the stuff my parents liked for quite awhile there.
